Do you know when your school's yearbook deadline is? Most school's have their deadline for submitting your senior photo in October or early November of your senior year. Some even have the deadline in August or September. That is why high school seniors usually get their senior pictures taken during the summer. Students need to have thier senior portrait packages ordered at least two weeks prior to their yearbook deadline in order to guarantee their senior picture is received in time to make the cutoff date.

Please also remember, you may not be the only one who is putting off getting your senior pictures taken. Once school begins, there will be less appointment times available, not just because of school schedules, but also because of changes in available daylight. This is why it is a good idea to schedule your appointment time far enough in advance to ensure your senior photo will be included in your yearbook.

Did you also know that just because your high school designates a photographer to take the yearbook photo that you do not need to purchase your senior photos from that photographer? Yes, you have to go to them for the yearbook picture, but you can go anywhere you want to have your portraits taken that you want to buy. A lot of students don't want to get their portraits taken too early because they do change in appearance a lot during their senior year of high school. However, what you probably don't know is that students come in to have their photos taken throughout the year! I have several seniors every year come back for more than one portrait session.

Your senior photos should be a representation of your personality. I do not limit what you bring in like some of the other portrait studios. Bring in what ever you want, or whomever you want. For more information about what happens during your senior portrait session, check out my senior blog What to Expect for your Senior Portraits

Kurt's Kustom Keepsakes Green Screen Photo Booth

Looking for fun ways to keep your guests entertained at your wedding, graduation party, fundraiser, office party or other event? Are you hosting a Halloween or Christmas Party and searching for ideas to make your party stand out from the crowd? Have I got just the right thing for you! Kurt's Kustom Keepsakes is an open air photo booth that uses digital technology similar to that which movie and television show makers use to create digital characters and backgrounds. A similar photo booth was at a recent Hollywood Emmy party and was a huge hit!

You choose the background(s) before your event. Then, while at your event, we take pictures of your guests in front of a green screen. Then, with Hollywood style GSI magic, we create an image of your guests in the background picture you chose. This is a fun and exciting way for your guests to enjoy your gathering, and can even take home a copy of the photo for a souvenir! We can also make a scrapbook from the photo booth images for the guests to sign! Check out my Kurt's Kustom Keepsakes website for more information, images from past events and pricing details. You might even see a real Hollywood celebrity or two!

Fall and Halloween Portraits

It's that time of year again. The leaves are turning, the kids are back in school, and football is on tv all weekend long. Yes, it's fall in Northwest Ohio.

According to the website for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, this year's weather has been much more moderate and the colorful leaves should last much longer than last year. The bright sunny days and cooler nights we have been having will help bring out those vibrant fall colors everyone is waiting for. Prime fall foilage for our area is expected to be during the first couple of weeks of October.

October also is our annual Customer Appreciation Month at Kurt Nielsen Photography. Too help us celebrate fall and our 14th anniversary, we will be offering family fall photos at Wildwood for the discounted session fee of $39.95 for one week only. This will be a full one hour photo session but is limited to children and families only (pets are family too!). This is not valid for Senior Portraits. This special is valid only from October 10th through October 16th, 2011. You must have your photo session during this time period in order to take advantage of our Fall Portraits in the Park Special pricing. Call me at (419) 885-7153 to schedule your Fall Portrait Photo Session and take advantage of our Customer Appreciation Month Special. Appointment times will be limited.

October 1st is OcTABerfest at the Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Ohio's annual OcTABerfest will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 10am-4pm at Owens Community College.

This event is FREE to everyone, and Ronald McDonald will be there! There will be activities for the kids which include an inflatable bouncer, face painting and a junior Pull-A-Mac. There will also be a car and truck show with registration beginning at 9am. The first 200 entries will receive dash plaques. They will also have door prizes. This is also the perfect time to turn in all of those can pull tabs you have been collecting.

New for this year is the Pull-A-Mac tournament. This is a "bracket style" tug-of-war tournament between teams pulling a 20 ton semi! Each team is allowed 10 members. RMH did a "practice" pull at Southview High School earlier this year. I went along to photograph for promotional pictures and witnessed a 3 man team pull the semi. It can be done! This event will be MC'd by WTVG's Dave Holmes with the winning team receiving a trophy and the respect of everyone watching! Don't miss this fun event and help support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Ohio!
